    Front Forks

Is it practical to have oversized (longer than standard) fork tubes cut and retreaded to stock length 575mm? Is it a case that it is cheaper to buy used or new stock size?. Engineering shops that can do these modifications (even straightening forks) are becoming hard to find? Opinions welcome.

    Early model 70-71 instrument rebuild/rejuvenation

Very detailed overhaul, Didn't realise there was so much involved in calibrating the dials. I think for the average owner getting the dials to work in the first place would suffice. After all, riding these classic bikes one is not to concerned with watching speeds and revs. By the way how is the...

    Heritage Special

For those of you who are familiar with the Heritage Special model, Is it common on this model XS650SK for the engine and frame numbers to be different? To the best of my knowledge this was the last model of the XS650 range and the Yamaha factory used up all the parts they had left over from the...

    Haynes Manual xs650

If you post a few pictures of what you have of the bike, and a few words on its history, like mileage, like has the engine been assembled correctly and tested and the mileage since reassembly etc. I think I could give you a good estimate of its worth in sterling.

    Speedometer/Revcounter Repair

Thanks for the replies....guys and I know I can get replacements on Ebay, the thing is the postage cost to Ireland from the US (where the supply of spares is plentiful) can exceed the cost of the item, taking the good out of that option. Anyway I have a few of these clocks in various states of...

    Speedometer/Revcounter Repair

Hi JD... In my case the glass got broken on the speedo of an XS2 clock resulting in dirt/glass etc. getting into the internals. I'd really like to take out the internals to clean as the mileage rings could do with a cleaning and give it a light oiling. Any ideas where the glass can be obtained?

    Speedometer/Revcounter Repair

Are the clocks repairable? If so, where can parts be obtained? Is there a "know how" for the repair of these clocks available, reading material/instructions. The clock faces become faded in time due to sunlight, I'm wondering is there a way to remedy this? Can the glass be removed to do a "paint...

    Frame Dimensions, Drawings

The XS650 has had 3 frame modifications but the engine shape and size remained the same through its production (1970 to 1983) therefore any year engine can be into any one of the 3 frame types. Have I got that right! Would someone confirm that I have this right? Thanks.
