For those of you who are familiar with the Heritage Special model, Is it common on this model XS650SK for the engine and frame numbers to be different? To the best of my knowledge this was the last model of the XS650 range and the Yamaha factory used up all the parts they had left over from the previous production runs and put them into this model? explaining the miss match of numbers. I read that explanation somewhere and I can't recall the source, so I'm hoping to have this explanation clarified or otherwise from the XS650 membership here.

No big deal though as long as the title matches the frame. Using the engine # you can ID the year it was built with skulls ID thread. Only minor differences on engines 74 and later. Won't hurt to use the engine year in your signature if asking engine related questions. Probably biggest thing is figuring out what carbs you have on it and what ignition does it have?
