Light checker unit removed - now no horn

Horn function was restored by moving the black ground wire from the left handlebar switch to a different ground connection in the headlight shell. Black ground wires did run through the RLU and the LCU which were removed and my theory is that cutting these devices out of the wiring loom...

Light checker unit removed - now no horn

Will try this in the AM XSLeo. THe horn was working earlier today, up until the LCU and the RLU were removed. It certainly seems like power to the horn was lost directly after the removal of these devices.

Light checker unit removed - now no horn

Bike is a 1979 Special II. Removed light checker unit connecting the blue and blue/yellow wires. Tail/brake lights now work fine with no blown fuses and bike runs fine. Previously was blowing this 10A fuse and red tail/brake warning light on dash was lit constantly. It may or may not be...

    Spoked front wheel disassembly

Thanks Gary, I got it apart with no damage. The original wheel bearings are in good shape and the purpose of this exercise is to grease them in place, then replace speedometer parts and grease seals.

    Spoked front wheel disassembly

Trying to take apart the front wheel on my '79. This is a stock spoked wheel. On the speedometer drive side, after pulling off the speedometer drive, I'm left with a black plastic rimmed with metal center outer cover for the speedo drive assembly. This also covers the grease seals and ball...

    Bad Vibrations? READ THIS

Thanks for this discussion Hugh, the explanation makes sense. Yamaha put those rubber fittings here and there for a reason!

    Bad Vibrations? READ THIS

This may not be the proper place to ask this but I will anyway. A rephase job, which will also include at least a freshening up of the top end (and of course could include more if needed) will cost approx. what dollars? I am well aware that there are variables involved but a ballpark figure will do.

Giveaway: Pandemonium Brake Kit! (ends 11pm CST on December 17th, 2012)

Bike is a '79 Special II. You might call it mildly cafe'd. It is no show bike as you can see from the pic but a reliable daily rider. It has been gone through pretty much from axle to axle for safety with appropriate upgrades. Running an electronic ignition, aftermarket coil, and a rebuilt...

how do you change tires and tubes? by hand

I change my own tires and yes, it is a bitch of a job. To heat up your tires I suggest using a heat gun (or a hair dryer) it does make things go easier as the rubber softens and stretches much better when warm. I have had good luck doing my own, go slow and be careful.

Mikes XS PMA vs Hughs Hand Built PMA ? which to buy?

As someone who restored/rebuilt his XS a five years or so ago I'm just thrilled that these kits are available. I couldn't have gotten my bike back on the road without the expertise of Pamco Pete and his charging system mods. I didn't have the options then that you do now. I have a Chrysler...

Cheaper More Common Alternative to Yamabond

I too used Yamabond on a sump plate - never again! I had to use a good size drift to remove the sump plate for an oil change, it was really stuck on. Yamabond is for joining engine cases, its not right for something that you are going to be removing on a regular basis like a sump plate. It will...

    XS Registration - NO TITLE

I am always interested in these title threads. I do not have a title for either of my old bikes because the state of CT does not and will not title any vehicle over 25 years old and they were both older than that when I registered them. As long as I live in CT its not a problem but I do wonder...

Just looking for some Drive chain, Filter, and Tire Advice!

I agree with the last two replies but I have a further cheapskate tip for chain lube - chainsaw bar oil. It is made to stay put on chainsaws and I have been using it on my motorcycle chains for years with very good results.

    Which pamco combo to get?

I have the basic Pamco kit from Mike's and I am very satisfied with it. It is a world better in starting and running than the stock 32 year old components.

    Yamabond?

Threebond 1104 is the same as Yamabond.
