If you are wondering where to set your mixture screws, try starting 2-2.5 turns out, take a ride, maybe 10 miles then pull the spark plugs and check them for proper color and compare to the plug chops charts here.

Hello,
New to the forum, In 1997 I bought a XS2 with 7K miles on it out of a barn in Iowa, brought it home to NJ, I had already owned a 1977 D model (maroon). Anyway I ended up selling both bikes around 10 years ago and have had my regrets about it since.
I was lucky enough to find an XS2...
I owned a 1977D model about 10 years ago, I also had an XS2, the 77 was the bike that handled the best, loved that bike!!
Good luck on your quest, if you find 2 of them, let me know about the other one. :)
I have a set of original mufflers from a XS500 (1976) In the past I owned a 1977 xs650,
They look like the exact same mufflers to me and they fit either model, my question is are they the same style and fit
mufflers?
The header pipes are different, that I see.
