Voodoo Vintage: SUICIDE frame for Mr. David Roberts!!!

those are some solid welds there! I rather like to see full penetration on a bike frame, than cosmetics, IMO! With a good powdercoat job, those will look dope.

    Media blasting protocol?

One last tip would be to run your engine 5 minutes and flush oil, two times at least, to be certain no dust or remaining debris are stuck in there. Got this one off an old Yamaha mecanic, been there for 30 years, he says he always flushed 3 times after any rebuild.

Baking paint on a gas tank

I would not exceed 200-250 degrees. Most tank liners are epoxy-based and does not tolerate heat well. I was on the way to powdercoat mine and backed out for this reason.

    Possible to clearcoat bare metal?

just my 2 cents, I run a powdercoating shop and clear bare metal either with clear powder or clear ceramic coating. As was said, key is prep and most importantly a very short delay between polishing and coating. As far as I know almost all powder and ceramic coating are DTM coatings. they have...

    How to blaster cylinder?

To give a shiny original casting look, go with glass beads as was said. Soda will clean but will leave a matte greyish look to cast parts. I did mine with glass and it looks just fresh out of factory!

complete '73 engine rebuild, a few questions

New cases, hum... I doubt I could score any good condition used cases around here easily... I'm in quebec, canada and these bikes are not easy to come by. most bike mechanics I've spoke about XS650 were all telling me parts were impossible to come by. But that was before I discovered...

thanks for the replies, I will take my casing to a machinist that I know to make the repairs. Is there anyone with a pic of the shifter drum outer end (the broken part in the pics)? I would like to see how it is in its original shape? that would help my machinist...

complete '73 engine rebuild, a few questions

Hi, I bought a TX650 1973 a few months ago for 400$, literally a barn find. Needless to say she needed love, lots. I finally took her completely apart 3 weeks ago and I've spent many nights reading on this forum since. Ran some testings on the engine with a friend mechanic and we...
