Ok I think I figured out the timing issue. The springs on the advance were not retracting! they were staying open at all times not allowing me to retard the timing into the proper range. I clipped an equal length off each of them and re installed the springs (I planned on ordering new springs...

can someone please explain this cart it makes no sense to me whatsoever....

It is all the way at the far end and the bike backfires all over the place. How does one install the advance rod incorrectly?

Just trying to button things up because the bike is running like poo. I recently rebuilt the top end and I am trying to get the timing right. Starting with the right jug and light hooked up I have the plate turned all the way to the left and I cant get the timing set right. It is too far...

Ok so I rebuilt my motor, had to switch wiring harnesses with another year I had laying around because it was too badly hacked (I believe my harness is late 70's) and I am having charging issues now....I am trying to figure out why and my first area I am looking into is a missing component...

Is there anyone that can elaborate on this?

I suppose I will tear it down anyway.....and wait for a response as to if I need to order a gasket or not....

I am in the process of rebuilding an xs650 and torqued the head studs to spec....then realized I need to pull it apart again because of a gasket issue.... THe motor is still out of the bike, never been started......will I have to replace the head gasket or will it be ok? Does it crush down...
