newbie question....can I run a timing light off a 12 v trickle charger or even a battery tender with alligator clip attachments? Dec 13, 2019

I believe you can, as long as the - (neg) clip is also attached to bike ground. At least that is my experience from trying to power my timing light from a free standing car battery, while the bike was running from its own battery. This did not work, until I connected the free standing battery neg. to the bike ground.
I would also suggest you post any future questions in the "Garage"
