Are the 80-83 model year motors the same? My bike is an 83 and I have found a 80 motor but want to make sure the ignition and such is the same and it will bolt up. Im pretty sure it will but just making sure. Thanks

I get what your saying now. I'm by no means mechanically illiterate but i also don't rebuild many motors. I can get a crank assembly for a pretty decent price but need to know what year cranks will fit in this motor. Will a different crank cause any balance issues if i were to swap it out...

Will all year cranks drop into this motor? It is an 83 model.

Wow sounds pretty crazy so what your saying is one of the flywheels was out of balance? Im assuming your talking the 4 disk looking deals that make up the crankshaft? Can i buy a new crankshaft assembly and swap them out? Or do i need to get mine looked at. Is it gonna cost more to get it...

No i still have the whine in the motor. Changed cam bearing cam chain guide the one that screws through the side of the motor. The other guide is still in the motor. The only moving parts that are left are in the bottom end and that will be a winter project. Bike runs pretty good it just...

I am going to change my cam bearings today i have heard it can be done without breaking the cam chain. Anybody have the secret to this do you just slacken the cam chain and push them on and off one at a time? Thanks in advance Eric

Every time that i have changed the oil out of it the drain plugs have a small amount of shavings on them but i didn't think it was enough to worry about maybe it is.

nj1639 i have not yet checked the bottom strainer or the right side oil strainer. I have however had the whole side cover off and have drained the oil to do this, i didn't see anything in the oil on either occasion do i still need to pull the filters?

Looking for a motor for relatively cheap that runs with no bad noises like the cancer i currently have. Anything that has the same ignition as an 83 motor will work as long as i can swap it out. Thanks
