is there any way of getting rid of that clunk noise and feeling when letting out the clutch in first and second gear? my 1977 does it and my girlfriends 1981, seems more noticable when the engine is good and warm. any ideas?

The two I've ridden don't do that. My '81 clunks when going into first from neutral at a standstill with the clutch pulled, but that's not when letting the clutch out.

ya, its weird cuz my father's 78 special doesn't do it either. i also noticed that if i really give it hell off the line i don't notice the clunk at all :wtf:

haven't had my clutch apart, but i tore the girlfriends apart twice to change the throw out bearing and fix the electric starter gear.... everything seemed normal. the only thing i did notice that seemed a little odd was on her clutch basket - there was play between the basket and and the base plate
