Thanx man. Most of this work has been done last year. This season it's all part the top end is at the machine shop. In the meantime I have been collecting parts

I'm seeing something strange about your carbs. I see tin tops, only bs34's had them, but I also see choke bodies, only on bs38's, and I see a pull rod instead of the lever that 38's had. can we get a full shot of your carbs? what year? I see thay re linked, late 70's 38 and all 34's were linked. Maybe a PO had put these tops on it, likeing the chrome over the aluminum of the 38's.
I maybe wrong. Have you had the pleasure of reading the carb guide? are you rebuilding the carbs yourself?

Angus67 those are some very interesting points. I had these carbs apart as seen in the pix. Yes I did rebuild them myself and put them through ultra sonic cleaners. I can get you some pix shortly I lent them to a friend who is having carburation issues. Ill get him to send me pix tomorrow. Ill post em up.

I noticed those tin tops too. They look wrong and they are wrong, and you should change them to the correct ones. The tin ones shouldn't even fit unless the screw holes were wallowed out. There should be a big spring under each of those tops, I did not see those in the disassembled drawing. That spring should be 4-1/8" long, if not, it is the wrong spring.
There should be a butterfly-shaped piece connecting the two caps, part #64 in this drawing:

That connector is very important. If you want the correct caps and the butterfly connector, I have them, PM me.
The angle iron connecting your two carbs is backwards. I don't think you will be able to mount the carbs with it oriented like that. Flip it the other way.
The choke and choke rod look normal.

Cool thanx Dogbunny for the info. All holes lined up correctly without anything being modded or butchered. I had these on my bike and it ran beautifully without even a hick up.
I am done with these carbs though as i have brand new Mikuni VM34 roundslides with velocity stacks waiting! Yay

Cool, I checked the hole spacing on the caps again, it is different, but very close, maybe close enough. The missing butterfly connector helps brace the carbs to each other, preventing flex and problems with the boot seal. It is not essential, but is very desirable. I looked at the angle iron too, it will work your way, but can interfere with the intake boot clamps, and is supposed to be the other way. It was hard to tell your exact year carbs from the pics, I guessed.

I understand that you are going for a look, but it's a bit of a shame to ditch your hick-up-less carbs. A lot of members on this forum would give anything to have their carbs work right.
Anyways, nice work.

They appear to be a '78-'79 carb set. The "tells" are the float bowls with no overflow hose nipples and the internal bowl vents, those two large holes on the outer lip of the intake bells at 3 and 9 o'clock. Also, in the carb parts pic, I can see a mix screw laying by the choke bodies and it has an o-ring on it. This was the only set of 38s to use an o-ring on the mix screw. Yes, the holes in the tin tops have been wallowed out some to make them fit.

oh, ok, since your new carbs will perform beautifully, right out the box, then I assume You wont be asking for help?
Csi indeed.
we just need a shot down the throat of the carb. These 38's clean up nice!
Oldschoolcarbs does excellent work.

No im assuming that this carb is jetted completely wrong. As for my stock carbs should they NOT be performing properly since they apparently have mish mash of parts?
