Hello everyone and thanks for the add!
So I got SUPER lucky and stumbled across someone giving away a 1978 Yamaha 650.( I pick it up tomorrow and will have more pics) As far as the owner knows it needs a wiring harness. I am a bike noob and was hoping i can get some insight on it. What is this bike worth? Based on the picture does it look like its in decent condition? How tricky is installing the wiring harness? Are there any links that you guys can direct me to to helo me install the wiring? Thank you all in advance

As it sets. $200 maybe 3. If it has a good title $400.
Installing a wiring harness isn't tricky at all, if you are familiar. No special tools needed. Now if you need to replace couplings different deal. You will want a special crimper and bullet or spade fittings. In the tool bar on the top click "Tech" and you will find wiring schematics and a lot of other info.

Except for side panel, and it's probably lying in the grass, it appears complete, if it comes with a title it is a good start. If the motor turns freely even better. Be warned, free bikes are sometimes the most expensive.

The better question is why was the wiring harness pulled out of it, did someone try to start it with a boost and cross connect the terminals and thus fry it and the regulator and the rectifier and the stator etc.

Resolve now to yourself to try to fix things on it rather than throwing money at it. Money is finite; your ability to research, read, understand and try to do it is infinite.
Having said that, wiring hanrnesses are cheap and the best solution to that situation.

I just got a free 79 like yours. I'm really starting to love Tis bike. I'm making mine into a cafe bike. Should post pictures before long. My 4 year old helped me replace the inner cam bushings. I put in needle bearings from Mikes. Really starting to have fun.
