Singer Ian Gillian was the essence of Deep Purple, in my opinion. What a voice.
"Lazy" was an Rn'B tune they did. This one from 1970 takes 5 minutes to kick up, but its worth the long intro:


and Gillian is still active. He sang with the late Luciano Pavarotti, and in 2014 did this orchestral version of the 70's classic "Perfect Strangers":

I've been listening to him, regularly, since I was about 15 (1969).
I looked so much like him at that time, that my friends called me Gregg.
