In the process of cleaning up my carborators and replacing the float bowl gaskets I over tightened and stripped the threads inside the carborator base in two of the eight screws. What is the best way to repair this Rookie mistake. Thanks for any guidence.

Yes, so have I, but it's a rather delicate spot to fix. Maybe not the best place to do a first time Heli-coil install. You might want to practice installing a couple on some scrap aluminum first.

You can melt a penny into a pool of zinc with a gas stove flame. 2M did a big metallurgy piece on carbs. I wonder what would happen if you poured the melted penny into the stripped hole? Having wondered that, my approach would probably be to use an extra-long screw and put a nut on it...

Use this. It's perfect!

Go to Youtube and look for Fix My Hog. I've used it, and it works great!

Don't laugh! JB WELD the hole carefully after cleaning it thoroughly with B12 or some other carburetor spray. Be sure you mix it properly. Work it into the hole with a toothpick then smooth off he excess. Let it cure for at least 24 hours. Use your float bowl as a guide and CAREFULLY drill it starting with small drill bits then simply tap a thread in the JB Weld. I have done exactly this repair in the past. No need to overtighten the screws on the float bowl. Be careful....good luck!

Trust me on this. The Locktite Stripped Thread Repair is the way to go. I got it at Zoro, com

My gas cap screws stripped on a road trip. I made new threads for machine screws with this stuff. They've been holding against that spring for three years!
