I have found SO many posts on this in the search. I tried to find the answer to my question but could not find it. NO way was I going to read all 5000 of them. So here is the question. Where can I find a GENUINE set of Keihin carbs for a 1982 xs650. I would like to get everything in a kit to install the new carbs. Manifolds, gaskets ,cables, airfilters ,jets and anything else I need. I do not want ANY type of knock offs. Thanks Mirage

Hey Mirage,

any set of carbs off an EX500 work and slip into the stock carb boots on BS34s.
If you need new boots a lot of guys recommend these guys http://jbmindustries.com/
For CV carbs we all universally recommend Unifilters.

For jetting I'd read the massive thread.
I also use the stock throttle cable, granted, mines a little janky.
Same thing with my choke set up.

If I where to buy another XS650 the first two things would be PAMCO and CVK34 carbs.

Hey Mirage,

Hi Uhlaf,
replacing '79 & earlier points with a PAMCO is a good thing but if you bought an '80 or later TCI bike don't mess with it's ignition, right?

Mine is an 81, came with factory TCI igniter box. Eventually is crapped out and I had to replace it. A Pamco system with the rod and retarding spring system was the same price so I bought that and installed it. Works great.

Depending on which Keihin carbs you're looking for, Jetsrus.com has them...not sure they sell a "kit", but they're genuine for sure.

Heads up, mirage. If you're looking at the PWK series, Keihin does not produce it in a 32mm. venturi. The "32 mm." PWKs are actually bored out 28 mm. carbs. Reason: PWKs are dedicated 2-stroke carburetors, each size has only one needle jet size that fits it, and a small bore carburetor body had to be used to get anywhere close to a needle jet small enough for 4-stroke use. If you like tuning headaches, by all means buy a pair. As Skull and Uhlaf noted, Keihin CVK34s (OE on Kawi EX500) have performed very well on the XS650. If you want new carbs, the cheapest decent carburetor will be the venerable Mikuni VM34. Buy from a reputable vendor who knows the XS650 and will give you tech support after the sale. I can recommend two: Michael Morse of 650 Central and Gary Hoos of Hoos Racing.

Thanks that's the info I needed. Will start looking at the Mikuni. I just don't like the looks of the stock carbs But I hear they are good carbs. I will be doing all the trick stuff to the motor. The carbs are a bit down the road. After I get my frame done I will start on the head. I hear a lot of stuff about it.
