Being carbureted, I think it may have run afoul of tightening EPA emission regulations that meant more sophisticated A/F ratio management, i.e., computer-controlled fuel injection. If so, Kawasaki management would have to decide if market acceptance at that time was sufficient to support the added cost for US bikes, especially if carbureted models were still salable in other markets. Just my guess -Really a nice looking bike..surprised they only made this available for 2 model years in the states...
