getting someone to rebuild my engine and due to a problem now have to go 2nd oversize, I am looking for nos 447 pistons, or is the quality of aftermarket pistons ok? don't want to go the expense of forged?, but I am wondering what are the associated problems going bigger (if any), changing jet sizes, harder to kick over?

As long as there aren't any valve clearance issues (valve pockets in the domes are the same/equivalent), any new aftermarket pistons will be as good or better than 40 year-old NOS, and a lot cheaper too! I had a motor done for me years ago, max-over, aftermarket pistons. Cheap, for all the work they did, and it was a real firecracker afterwards!

There's been literally hundreds of second oversize sets from cruisin installed and out running the streets. Quality appears very good, we don't hear any bitching, and if there were problems we would know!

2nd over... won't be a problem..... when you go big bore..750..then jets and kick'n are a issue. I'v done several 2 overs.... and this kit looks like a good set.I'm about to do my motor... Question: how is Mike's XS cam chain guide. ?

Mike's guides; you may need to chase the mounting bolt threads a bit, the threads, holes are often crude, not so straight. Other than that they seem to do fine. See the recent beehive of activity about retroing SR500 guides in.

I had an engine I did a second over top end, It ran just fine with the carbs set up as they were on the stock engine. I went to a Mike's 750 kit. Thinking the carbs would need something I spent about two week playing with the carbs. I ended up with everything as it was on the 2nd over engine.
The jump up in bore size even to a 750 isn't enough to need carb work. Going bigger like 850 or 1000 like some European racers do then I imagine stock carbs would need work. I doubt they run stock carb on those sort of racers.
About the only thing you might need to adjust is carb sync. A worn engine is likely to have an imbalance on the compression, This will also cause an imbalance on intake vacuum thus the carbs may need adjusting the sync.

Thanks guys only problem, cruizinimage say they don't ship to Australia, would be good to find some in Australia, with the way the dollar is at the moment.
What brand are cruizinimage pistons, I may see if someone in Australia sells the same brand, I presume these are Japanese pistons? I have been told to stay away from Chinese pistons.

I'm pretty sure that cruzinimage has the pistons made for them. No brand markings on the box when you get them. Plus they sell for pretty much every vintage japanese bike.

thanks guys, didn't realize that cruizinimage has a separate shop in japan that ships to Australia, will let my engine builder know, he has been looking for a nos set of 2nd o/s pistons, you guys seem to think that cruizinimage quality is ok with no major problem.
thanks graham

I know this is an old thread, but curious as to what shipping costs for a set of these is from Japan? The sets I’ve looked at show $500. I understand there are customs/import tariffs that may affect which is why he doesn’t list actual cost. Anyone care to share what shipping/tax/tariffs to the good ol US ran them?

I was just on the Cruizinimage website, they don’t show any piston kits for any motor but the European 533 motor?

I bought mine a couple years ago and shipping was about $20. Try going through their web site instead of eBay. They combine shipping on stuff so you might want to look over their other 650 parts. Their 33T rear sprockets are cheap at only about $20.
