Van Go

Got the full 8' sheet up now, need to go for more ply. The "slat" lines didn't quiet line up... off a quarter of an inch or so. Thought long and hard (not!!) about fixing it. Finally decided it's just a van ceiling.... it ain't the Sistine Chapel...and I ain't Michelangelo. Close enough.
This van is all about utility and not about being a show winner.

Of note.... I did some rough calculations and it looks like the weight of all the ply for the ceiling and sides will be about 20-40lbs less that the weight of just the desktop that I pulled out of here. If I can keep this up, the finished product will be 500-600lbs lighter than when I drove it home. That's gotta help the gas mileage. :smoke:

That’s really looking great Jim

More progress....

Added furring strips (3/4") to the backside of the aft shower wall, ran a wire for lighting, tossed a little "sound deadening" in it and covered it in the same 11/32" ply as the rest of the interior.

The seam where the conversion folk cut the original top off and added the glass top was a right bear to figure out. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any in-progress pics. I'll do that on the other side.
There's now a 5" shelf running on top of the joint, boxed in with the same ply. Not quiet sure how I'll finish it off yet. I'm thinking maybe a small railing and hooks for a cargo net run the full length. Dunno.... plenty of time to ponder that. :umm:

Had to run to the parts store for some bondo. While I was there I picked up a little "bling" for Van Go. :smoke:

Well you’ve made a nice dent in your project, looking good! 🙂

WOW - Jim - awesome job on this!

I'm just catching up and I'll have to give the whole thread a good read-over later today.

.......and yes Bob - I did see what you did there.... :lmao:

Nice work Jim; keep pushing on with this its starting to look half inhabitable now.
By the way, how are the feet holding up?
