Was looking through xs650 direct for Standard tail light options for my conversion from Special and stumbled upon this:

Was this actually an option for later model European market standards? If so, what tail light bracket was it mounted to?

I haven’t been able to find any definitive pics (even in the original European model brochures).

All the original period photos that I could find show the typical round Standard Tail light with the braced tail lamp bracket.

Any input / photos would be much appreciated.

I don't know about Canada, but that may not be legal for us in the States here because it doesn't have a clear bottom to illuminate the license plate.

76-77-78 Euro. Notice the guard length in each pic. The tailight could be country specific, some countries did have options or local law required a fixed length for a rear guard. The US Custom had to comply as well.

Also note the tailight bracket is shaped to carry the rear indicators. Has three fixing points to the guard

Not sure this helps but the early UK rear lamp for XS2 is shown in the attachment with part numbers, I’ve been trying to source one for the past 3 years ( and so far failed) to finish my XS2 build. You can get the lens but not the bracket.

One last question, that is semi related....

I know the North American Standard and Special fenders are different configurations, but has anyone had any luck adapting a Standard tail lamp bracket to a special fender?

I am assuming the angle of the tail light might differ drastically when swapping.

Those guards are not euro specific. Haven't seen one brochure with the long guard. Might have been for one specific country

Ok. Last question, I promise.

Can anyone provide the distance (centre to centre) of the mounting bolts for a standard round tail light?

Same spacing as the license plate lamp on the newer Specials.
It's between 1 1/16" and 1 1/8". 1 3/32"?
I can't figure mm fractions.......
OK, 28mm maybe......
These are stem to fender measurements.

I have a couple of the round Standard tail lights out in the barn. One complete and one just the stem, we'll call it. Depending on how that aftermarket lens is attached, it might swap on to the Standard stem.

I measured the spacing of the stem-to-lens mounting holes and it's 70 mm.
