'72 hard to restart after running for a while.

Turns out it was my points gaps. I realized one of the screws that holds the points plate (one of them) had no washer. meaning it would change the gap every time I tightened it. I added the washer and reset both points and now it starts better than it ever has. hot or cold. I've noticed...

'72 hard to restart after running for a while.

like the title says, my 72 is REALLY hard to start if I stall it at a light or whatever after I've ridden for a bit. I just recently put new pistons and rings on it, etc. and reset the valves, timing, etc. any ideas what might be going on? (I didn't have this issue before the rebuild -...

    Piston to Cylinder clearance?

hi, I found a shop to bore my cylinders to fit my new 25 over pistons.... when i dropped off the cylinders and pistons, the shop guy asked me what i wanted the piston clearance to be... is there a standard spec that i should have them shoot for?

    Rings for Oversize Pistons

can i fit .50's to .25 bores in the same way...?

    Rings for Oversize Pistons

Is it common for .25 oversize pistons to require specific oversized rings? I haven't run across this in other rebuilds where you just fit the regular rings to the bored cylinders.

    xs2 won't shift down into 1st

I recall reading a post describing this problem and how to fix it. But now i can't seem to find it by searching. My bike shifts fine up and down but from neutral, won't seem to go back into 1st unless i 'bounce' my foot on the shift shaft or come back up into 2nd then go all the way down...

    Front Wheel/disc free play?

kinda.... I ended up using silicone rubber sealant. I coated the space with 'more than enough' silicone then reassembled. it worked for awhile the first time. did it again and its still working. I bet a nice couple of layers of teflon tape would work better. folded up maybe.

17/32 gear & new tires = huge improvement

thanks for that review. I've been kicking around the idea of a 32 tooth rear sprocket since I run out of gear so quickly. did you replace the chain too?

Is an occasional smoke (from the tailpipe) bad...

I just finished a top end rebuild ... instigated by my bike smoking like a 2 stroke. new seals and guides seemed to have solved that problem. now i'm virtually smoke free...but yesterday I went on a good long ride and at the top of a particularly long steady hill (about a mile long pulling...

New Cylinder base gasket already leaking...

I initially torqued the head in two or three passes, working up to 32lbs. then went around a last time to double check it. the gaskets are new from mikes, so I doubt thats a problem.
