    as i understand the system one set of points opens the primary firing circuit and the other closes it

    if you have electronic ignition [tci] you should ground both plug wires before turning the engine over using the bikes switches

    no it requires finger pressure

    if you replace the gauge with a gloved finger it should have enough pressure to blow your finger off of the plug hole

    compression test should be done on a warm engine: with the plugs removed...ground both plug wires and screw in the compression tester hose...with the throttle held wide open crank the engine with the starter until the gauge needle stops moving [should read over 120 psi minimum]

    blowing back through carb can indicate a super lean mix [clogged jet or massive vacuum leak] also could indicate a need for a larger pilot jet [not air pilot]

    try 1/2 can seafoam in a full tank to clean carbs...also chk for fouled plugs

    has any forum member seen or installed a larger [greater capacity] fuel tank on their xs?
