I think I am going to keep the paint job purely because it is so unique! I've never seen another one like it. There are definitely prettier XS650 colour schemes out there; my favourite being the 1978 Spruce Green Metallic, but this has a certain charm. It looks better in the flesh too.

Hi 650Skull, Bay of Plenty. I know you are in Aus at the moment but you might have heard of the Taranaki Hard docu-series on TV at the moment. Waitara on TV!

Hi 5twins, you read my mind. I plan to keep it as simple as possible, refurbish the carbs and get either some UNI foam pods or air boxes if I can easily locate them.

The drum does function fine, but I have yet to ride it and properly test it compared to a disc brake setup. I've never actually ridden a motorcycle with a drum up front so not sure what to expect to be honest. I like it and would like to keep it, but I'm a bit apprehensive I suppose, I like a...

This is what I found when i pulled the side covers off and carbs out. Pod filters, no air boxes. BS34s, however separate fuel entries to either side of carbs and not linked. No sure of these are original to bike or not? I'll clean them up, get some better filters or maybe try and find some air...

Its finally arrived. Shipping frim Japan took longer then expected but im not complaining considering the current environment. I haven't had much of a chance to get a look through it but looks tidy enough. Although it was a runner at the auction house I haven't fired it up yet. Turns over...

Thanks for the replies guys. It'll get here in couple of months. I plan to take a month or two to go through it and get it reliable and road worthy and by the auction report it doesn't need much at all. A bit of a polish and spit shine and we should be ready for some summer riding! I don't plan...

Great info, thanks for that. That makes more sense now. Appreciate the reply. I'm looking forward to restoring this bike. I like the look of the drum brake up front but never actually ridden one with it. Are they any good? I know they're quite rare and I do have a spoke wheel with disc brakes...

Looks like a standard tank. I think it's an XS but interesting how the paperwork says TX.

Hi Guys, There is a bike on a Japanese auction site that lists serial number 447-724583 as a 1978 TX650. By my understanding that serial number would correspond to a 1977 XS650D? Which is correct? Thanks in advance.

    Expert advise!!

gggGary was spot on in the 2nd post. You would have saved yourself a fair bit of mucking around if you'd checked the pilot circuit as he suggested (this is not a criticism, but its an important lesson to learn, and one I've learned myself. These guys have been doing it for years, they know what...

What have you done to your XS today?

Nice one brother! Always a great feeling firing up a engine that you've put together yourself, sounds fantastic and looks great. I've enjoyed your build thread, you've done some fantastic work. All the best

    E-Advancer survey

I have the mechanical advance and have no issues with it, I chose the mechanical over the electronic because I thought the less electronics the better. Is the E-advancer really miles better than the mechanical? I've often thought maybe I should have gone the E-advancer, but then again I've had...
