    Car tires instead

Are they both inflated? And man, is that going to track the grooves on the freeway something horrible!

Any electricians/electrical guru's please chime in

The gotcha is that if you double the voltage, you half the amps produced. Amps= watts/volts

    Coil testing

Which works great until you forget to turn off the choke.... *slurp* I pulled about a teaspoon and a half of mercury out of the CB550 oil pan! (yeah yeah, we technically don't have chokes on the XS650...) Every tool has a limitation, and if you know what it is, and how to properly...

    Coil testing

I disagree, I use the same gauges, but in the 4 rack version for the Honda CB550. I can get all four carbs into sync, as evidenced by smooth idling. Now, I did have to calibrate them, by putting each gauge on the same cylinder and making sure they read the same across the board. They were...

Intake & Exhaust Valves-Which is which?

And you know, near the intake manifold. While Exhausts are near the... exhaust pipes.

Running hughs PMA ? dry cell batt. Or sparx capacitor.

I saw this one, from the a sponsor of the board: http://sevensixfabrication.com/collections/m-c-parts/products/antigravity-battery-small-case-4cell $120? Worth a gamble, I'd say.

Melted Grounds, Reversed Polarity, No Spark Need Help

Yes, the TCI would not like reverse polarity either. I have an XS2, so was not thinking about the fact they ditched the points.

Melted Grounds, Reversed Polarity, No Spark Need Help

You did not mention replacing the condenser/capacitor. I would suspect you would blow that out reversing the polarity, most capacitors don't like reversed polarity.

    Replacing right hand controls.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement throttle that includes the perch for the decompression lever? I am moving the kill switch to the other side or maybe hidden under the triple tree area, and don't need a starter button, but wanted to keep the decompression lever for easier...

    Car tires instead

"I've been running. the TKC80s I believe are Bias Ply so I'm runin a radial ply car tire in back and bias ply knobby bike tire in front" He lost my attention right there, halfway into the first post.

    Car tires instead

Frighting to ride behind one on the twisties. Fairly common to see on the big baggers like Goldwings and HDs and what have youse. Disturbing to see a bike hike up it's tail around a corner as it rolls onto that square edge, watching the rear shocks try to deal with the uneven forces created...

    Zaps you while kickstarting.

2 weeks later, after UPS routes my package through Timbuktu... Managed to get one new coil/wire/plug put on tonight before the mosquito got too viscous. Turning the bike over by hand gave a nice clean spark on the timing mark! One step closer to getting her running, don't mind costs so long as...

    Tire advice?

You can get the exact tires your bike is specified for from here: http://www.reifenwerk-heidenau.de/?lang=en They are true bias tires like the originals, as well as classic treads.

    Zaps you while kickstarting.

Does what it says on the tin. When I grab the decompression lever and kick it, I get something a little extra: a tingle up the arm as I get mildly shocked. Bad ground? Leakage from the kill switch? Arcing from the plug wires?

Stock 72 XS, needs modernizing.....What kit to get?

if you want something in between a full on PAMCO set up and stock points, there is this option by a vintage repairman who is Honda focused (His book on CB750's must be seen to be believed) but makes a universal transistorized point system. It leaves all the hardware in place, wiring in a small...

    Desperate, not delirious...

I am heading there today, to get the right one, I tried looking them up over the weekend and it said they were not available. They sell the best hand scrubber, mostly unscented to make the wife happy. That orange crap she won't get within 10 feet of me, clean or not.

    Desperate, not delirious...

As a temp fix, until I get my kit from MikeXS, I am using a rubber freeze plug to block the start hole... Rubber should be oil/gas/heat resistant, since that would likely be the conditions that it would come in contact with if used as a freeze plug. (would use the right freeze plug, but...

    Wanted - 1972 XS650 Tank, or equivalent.

So, I got this bike from a friend that did not want to sell but was forced to, as it was his Uncle's bike, original owner. He simply has no room to store it and he trusted me to not just part it out, but get it back on the road. Problem is, the gas tank has been custom painted, and I am not...
