These damn wheels were almost impossible to clean! 40 freaking years of chain lube, dirt, grime, etc.... I gave up and took them outside and power washed them. I'm repainting them, so I wasn't worried too much about ruining the finish.

So, I made an interesting discovery today..... In my never-ending quest to find some good rearsets, my friend had an idea of chopping off the original mounts and drill/tap wherever I want to put new rearsets. Trying to get a visual of what that might take and what it would look like, I grabbed...

My father grew up loving motorcycles. His brother (Uncle Dave) was a pretty damn good builder. So naturally, when it was time for my Dad to buy a bike in 1979, he looked to my Uncle Dave for some advice. Uncle Dave is an XS guy! He loves them and he's probably rebuilt a dozen of them in his...

    Modern forks for the XS?

Hey, folks! I'm currently rebuilding my Dad's old XS650 special. I plan on going with two calipers in the front. The question that I have is: Had anyone swapped the front forks with something modern (upside down forks) and been able to retain the original rim. I would REALLY like to keep my...

Need some help with jetting/carb advice

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my Dad's old XS. It's a 79 special. I'm doing the Mike's 750cc big bore kit with Cams. I'm looking to see if anyone has done this with the Ninja 500 Carbs and, if so, what kind of jet setup did you do. Help/Advice, please@!

What do you have on your mind to build over winter

I'm doing an XS650 Special rebuild. So far, I plan on putting in the big 750cc kit, Ninja carbs, Powerdercoating the engine/wheels, etc... Still not sure what I'm going to do with the rear end, though.

New to the board, Seasoned Veteran on the XS!

Hey, folks! My name is Jason in Chantilly, Virginia. My father bought a Special in 1979 just before I was born. I was raised on it and I've always loved it. So much so that it drove me to work on bikes for a living and now I own my own shop. Well, while visiting the folks in Michigan last...
