    Bad Helicoil/stripped tappet cover

I think they call for a tool to do it but I didn't really find it necessary. Even with this relatively small diameter, I found that if you hit it nice and square there was no issue. I did have one pin start to lay over but I just straightened it out, gently, and continued to drive it in. Small...

    Awesome, thanks!

    dual points adjustment?

Well, I reset the gaps and was much more in range (retarded the timing a bit). As it turns out, they were set imporperly in the first place. Once I got the gaps right I was able to set the timing properly and she ran perfectly! What was really driving me nuts is that I started with a bike that...

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

5twins, I especially appreciate your continued contributions, in light of the fact that if I had THOROUGHLY read the carb guides from the beginning this thread would have been about 1 page shorter. Long story short, IT RUNS, and it runs PERFECT! I spent about a day and a half messing with the...

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

Thanks for the suggestion. I just redid the entire harness with no perceptible improvement/change. I'll definitely keep that in mind though.

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

I guess I'm kind of just thinking out loud now but, let's say perhaps my gapping with incorrect, on the small side. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I feel this would certainly cause the points to open late. For once I'm not actually sitting directly in front of the bike but I think...

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

Well I got into the carbs and realized that the lemon juice was major overkill so I didn't bother. I DID go through the carb guide (thanks millions 5Twins for the manual and your patience as well as sorry for my previous redundant questions in this thread) cleaning process and made sure (as per...

    Carb question... Idle scew...

The carb guide can really save you some money in doing the stuff yourself. The aforementioned manometer is super cheap to make and super easy to use. I've never done any carb work whatsoever and was able to read the guides and completely go though and repair/adjust anything I needed to on my...

    dual points adjustment?

This to me seems the easiest, safest and most efficient way to set/test the points set up, as it allows you to take your time and not worry about turning your coils into cylindrical ashtrays! I've never messed with a point system and have read every post and manual that I can get my hands on...

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

Got my new pods today. I think I'm going to tear down the carbs and lemon juice boil them today, so I've got a good solid baseline.

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

Okay so I'm not missing something then! It was driving me crazy everyone telling me I was supposed to have a vacuum port! Thank you for clarifying that for me.

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

Ok back. So @weekendrider, you think I'm on the right track? It just seemed it should work, or not. It will idle fine, and sometime catch when I twist it but when it bogs it's only on that right side. I think tomorrow I will take both carbs down and make sure they are super cleaned out.

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

Ha I'm thinking I should have made this a build thread! Just to clarify, I plan on constructing a manometer tomorrow, and should attach to this upper nub? (Lower is fuel equalization) Shouldnt these have a cap??

    Plugs fouling, top end rebuild?

(Slide?) Hmm no, I did not visually verify that. It seems like blockage to me because it will be fine one try and not the next. The only thing I thought I would be able to do next was taking everything apart and start over? I guess this might be a good way to see if there some type of...
