Necessary output for a PMA stator?

oh yeah! That's what I got. II found one stock from a Yamaha R1, or RZ or something. Only $30, everyone else was asking $50-60 on eBay. I haven't installed yet though. Hopefully everything works well. I also got a used stator form a Suzuki Intruder. Had a nick in the insulation. After too much...

Necessary output for a PMA stator?

Oh I see, amperage is constant but we get the difference from the voltage change as revs increase. Got it. I cannot test my current output, there is none! I could reinstall stock I suppose, but Im too lazy. Regarding the test for amp draw, are you testing ground on EACH circuit or just the main...

Build options for a tall guy?

Nice setup! That seat type was really what I was thinking for my first idea, old school dirt bike look, but thicker foam. Looks good too. The trend is to have crazy thin seats, but when your knees are in you pits, it tends to be less cool. how did you lower pegs? I was considering taking some...

Necessary output for a PMA stator?

Sorry, didn't include all info. The plan is to run kick only, Sparx capacitor and traditional bulbs. No display cluster lights, for the moment. TLCbobber- I think I will start sub-contracting my eBay searches out to you, I didn't even know anything cheap still existed on ebay. Is that 350 LC...

Necessary output for a PMA stator?

hmmm, here's a real nice cross over list. Expand the tab that says "Fit Models" http://www.rmstator.com/en_ww/products/rm01042-stator-polaris-2003-2009-suzuki-1990-2013-motorcycle-honda-1988-1990-kawasaki-1983-2004-suzuki-1988-2009-yamaha Indeed this selection does cover the same range of...

Necessary output for a PMA stator?

I recently burnt up a cheap ebay stator from Cal-Tric in 4 rides (or less). They are graciously refunding my $$. I am shopping for a used OE stator, but want to keep it cool. Hugh has a list of stators that physically fit onto the banshee mount, but wouldn't they have differing outputs? Being...

Build options for a tall guy?

I got some #24 bend bars from Baracuda racing. Pretty nice, I went with the biggest flat rack bars they have, 5" rise and 10" pullback. I failed to consider that when riding I lean forward a bit into the wind, so it's a bit big, leaving more bend in my elbows than i predicted. But it does get my...

    Rotor Overheating

Thanks for the update on yours stretchified, good to know it's not something inherently wrong with the PMA setup. I hope my next stator/reg combo lasts more than 100 miles. How does a voltmeter help with the problem? I would assume that would only let you know after a winding has failed and you...

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

Thanks 2many I had read the first one, I hadn't found the second one. There's no way I am going with the cheap reg/rectifier combo from Cal-Tric this time. You really think the shunt reg sends heat back into the stator? I was planning on going with all LEDs too, but now it looks like I want the...

    Rotor Overheating

Double bump. Have you received a new unit and installed? I just had the same problem with an eBay purchase stator and rectifier combo. Curious how yours pans out Posted via Mobile

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

Thanks, I did some searchin around and it looks like there were some similar problems with a batch coming from Hugh's. Hopefully my eBay seller will refund me. I haven't even pulled the whole thing apart, I was so bummed when I saw it. There's burn marks coming out the holes in the rotor, a...

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

Thanks for the tips! we're on the same wavelength on the wiring, I purchased a kit from that member just before reading your post! I was able to wire up my capacitor, and get the correct voltage. Unfortunately I found that my 2 week old PMA stator likes to light on fire, so I have other...

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

Thanks twoMany- I like the old shool recollections, especially if it helps me understand some real world principles. Were things simpler back then? I bet not :) I haven't had time to play this week, I will play with electrical over the weekend. I want to wire in my capacitor and see if it works...

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

Things are looking better. I eliminated a .3 volt drop in my ignition switch and connectors in my headlight. Voltage fluctuates, gets close to 15 in high revs then drops. Not sure what of that is just multimeter fluctuations. What are the "light checker" and "reserve lighting" units? I will be...

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

:thumbsup:thanks! I will have time this evening to chase down my voltage drop. Then this bike will be ready for testing as a daily ride!

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

It will keep it switched "on" while the bike is not running and that's the problem correct? Thanks

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

I was thinking that may be the problem, good advice to check it, there's a .8 volt difference! Can I just run the brown to battery pos? If not I can clean connections and find the voltage drop. Thanks guys, this is record fast problem solving for me Posted via Mobile

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

Double post -tome, thanks ippy for telling me to look at the diagram, I think I was reading it wrong previously. Thanks leo for that info, didn't see it on my last post. I am going to try to bypass the safety relay., Eventually I want all new simplified wiring, so I am setting up my basic...

PMA Install- Voltage too high- 6 wire regulator

:):):) Thanks TwoMany! I found another diagram for the KZ and determined the same, I soldered the brwn from my stator to a brwn "switched hot" wire at the fuse box and it's way better! I guess that brown wire is in charge of reading the electric signal for the reg to adjust to (?) I get about...
