    Left Handlebar Switches

Finally got the dimmer switch working! So, for the other two guys on this planet who own TX650s: The $26 EBay DT endure switch is a fully acceptable replacement for the original TX switch. Thanks, everybody who weighed in, with your ideas and help!

    Left Handlebar Switches

After many hours of anguish and much gnashing of teeth, I gave up on getting the dimmer switch operational (for now). I never ride at night anyhow . . . But overall, I rate the "$26 EBay Aftermarket DT Switch Experiment" a success.

    Left Handlebar Switches

The DT100/175/250/400 switch from EBay arrived, and I was impressed -- it's a high-quality reproduction, especially for $26: http://www.ebay.com/itm/311669296561?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The only problem: The new switch has a lot more wires coming out of it...

    Left Handlebar Switches

Thanks. I bought a new, aftermarket DT100 switch on EBay for $26. Looks identical; I'll let you know if it works!

    Left Handlebar Switches

OK, here's a question for you experts: My '73 TX650 came with a left handlebar switch with two light switches -- on/off and low/high. Is this the original switch? I'm having difficulty findng an affordable replacement for that configuration, but I see a lot of similar switches -- ones with no...

    Strange Rear Brake Problem

No mark on my pedal. Or grease zerk for that matter. Good idea, though.

    Strange Rear Brake Problem

Well, guys, I took a look at my brake linkage configuration today, and as many of you suspected, it was WAY out of whack. The arm on the brake pedal shaft was almost horizontal. When I moved it back to vertical, I had to rotate the brake pedal several splines on the shaft to get it back in the...

The easiest question of the day... (rear brake pedal shaft)

All I have is a Clymer, and it doesn't have any info/photos at all on the brake pedal & linkage. Yamaha parts diagram for '73 shows the arm straight up . . .

The easiest question of the day... (rear brake pedal shaft)

Thanks, everyone. I suspect the position of that arm in the brake pedal linkage, because of recent trouble with installing a missing tension spring there. I'll check it -- and the swingarm bushings -- and report my findings when I get a chance.

    Strange Rear Brake Problem

Nut is tight, and chain tension is just right . . .

    Strange Rear Brake Problem

I have a mystery for you XS650 experts to solve . . . When the rear suspension of my '73 TX650 is under load, the rear brake begins to actuate by itself. I notice it mostly at the bottoms of steep hills at highway speeds (I live/ride in a hilly area) -- when I reach the bottom of the hill --...

    Swing Headers Under Engine?

Holy s**t! You bolted them up, heated them up, and then twisted them all the way from outside the bottom frame tubes to underneath the engine? I assumed that you repositioned them under the engine first, then bent them down . . .

    Swing Headers Under Engine?

Nice bike. But I don't think my '73 headers are the same as yours. Did you bend them while they were still on the bike? Wouldn't that mess up the copper "crushable" gaskets at top?
