If anyone asks I'll tell them it's symbolism. The wood, just like the bike has scars and imperfections from old age. Add time, craftsmanship, and love. Not only does it become beautiful again, but it becomes your own. So if anyone asks, symbolism [emoji23]

Got the frame and swingarm back today. Was very nervous, as I ordered the color online, and wasn't 100% sure what it would look like. It's flat, where as the black is glossy. Didn't like the two together, but I think it makes the black pop even more. Super excited to start putting it back...

What have you done to your XS today?

Little elbow grease. Only went up to 600 grit + polish. Lost my 1000 & 1500 grit paper. It will work the moment!

What's everyone's thoughts on powdercoating the mag wheels?

Yeah and you should powder coat almost immediately after sandblasting. I waited a couple weeks which causes surface rust ( not on alum wheels) oil from fingers etc. I'm going to take my bearings to be installed at the local wheel shop.

What's everyone's thoughts on powdercoating the mag wheels?

Just a retired dude in his garage. That's just powder coating. I half ass sandblasted them myself before taking them over. He had to touch them up, but didn't charge me for it. I offered to pay for it, cool dude. I can't imagine getting them blasted would be that much more expensive, maybe $50...

What's everyone's thoughts on powdercoating the mag wheels?

Just got my wheels back today! I think they were 30 or 35 a wheel. What a visual improvement tho! You need a blind bearing puller to get them out. You can get one at HF for around $75. Or rent from local auto parts store. Or use an expanding concrete anchor. I'm sure you can find more...

    La Cucharacha build

Been putting in a lot of hours lately. Had my old phone kick the bucket on me and lost a bunch of pictures in the process. Removed the engine by myself, which I was pretty proud of. Took all the engine mounts out but one, laid it down, took the last bolt out, then just picked the frame up and...

XS650 FEST & CHOPOFF "2016" (Chop It - Build It- Bring it)

Stupid question: is there a start period? I.e. I started the build last summer, can I still enter, or is the time crunch part of the challenge?

I've thought about wrapping them. They can look good. The old wrap I took off smelled terrible once they got hot. I've heard through the grapevine that is caused by improper installation. ( something about a solution you treat the wraps in?) does that sound right? I got them quoted to get...

Hacked old exhaust off after mounting tab. It was double walled pipe so I welded the two together. First piece of straight looked like this: Added the baffle to the end of the straight piece.
