And yet another dumb carb question

Mikes sell part number 48-5010 idle mixture screw without the spring. Does that mean that the spring is not needed? I ask because I have springs in both my carbs but the right carb with the spring will only engage 2 threads/turns before bottoming out where the left carb goes about 5...

For Sale - XS650, it has come to this.

I'm approaching 77 years old the docs say my over half a century of riding motor bikes is "aging out" Time to sell and let the new owners enjoy. I take care of all my bikes. All rebuilt, refurbished, ready to ride. Top end rebuild documented on this forum. All brake stuff new. Not a museum...

    Mix Screw - gone

79 BS38 carbs. The bike has been running great since the topend rebuild, about 500 miles worth. Has been sitting for about a week. Went out to start it and it started right up, running on one cylinder very good but barely anything on the other. OK, got out the flashlight and found there was no...

Can’t figure this 1979 electrical gremlin out.

Headlight, gauge lights, neutral light, high beam indicator light, headlite stopped working warning light. None of it works. And I believe the gauge lights and neutral light should work soon as the key is turned on. Is that right? Tail light, brake light, turn signals and turn signal indicators...

    Head bolt sealing washers

Hi Guys, the rebuild is going good. Following the "top end buildup" instructions to the letter. Due to a miscommunication my order for the copper head bolt sealing washers didn't come in. I timed the re-assembly to have everything together and ready for the washers and torque sequence. Can't...

    Somewhat scared and apprehensive

The bike is running good. Compression is strong on the kick pedal. All systems seem to be OK. Except for the smoke out the right side exhaust and a bit less out the left side. At Idle all looks good, crack the throttle and white smoke comes out on the de-cell. Read that Re-torqueing the heads...

    79 front Master Cylinder

Ever since you guys helped me sort out all those carb issues to get the bike running about as good as it's gonna get until a top end rebuild happens, it's been a lot of fun riding around on these country roads and into town for groceries and such. So now, the front master cylinder on the 79 XS...

    Wanted - 79 tach/speedo

I'm starting to accumulate a collection of tach's and speedo's that don't work right. Faces vibrate, needles jump around, etc. So all I want is to get is a set of gauges that work well, and won't break the bank. Anybody got a set, in a parts box, left over from their chopper/bobber/cafe/tracker...

    Stretching a Swingarm

Anyone ever stretched the swingarm on the XS? Just toying with the idea of adding about 4" to 8" of length to the swingarm and am wondering what the best way to do the job would be. I know shock geometry might be an issue. What other problems would have to be handled? Is there a kit?

    XS650 Oddity

Picked up an XS650 out of a pasture that has been there for 5 years. Been working/tinkering and got it running. Now not sure what I got. The frame number 2F0 25xxxx shows it's a 1979 XSF. The motor number 4M4 01xxxx shows it's an 80 or 81 motor. I'm thinking 80 by the low number. So, is it...
