'Course, there's always a tank full of propane and a match, right? ;)

    thoughts on dent removal?

I've never had paint peel on any of the machines I used this on. But I suppose if you have bad paint it might.

    thoughts on dent removal?

Marty, that's the same as the bridge type "Ding King" I referred to earlier. It can do a pretty decent job if it is done right. The glue sticks shown in your picture are different and look like regular glue sticks, not HD, but may be ok. One thing is quite important in using this tool, and that...

    thoughts on dent removal?

I bought a TV promoted (Billy Mays?) dent remover, years ago, called the "Ding King". It uses the hot glue method, with a bridge type puller. It works a lot better than I would have thought, but the quality of the glue makes a big difference. The stuff you get in the five and dime is pretty weak...

    Shocks

It's all good. I used an old set off my G5 V1000. I had a set of no name progressives that would have worked as well, but I think the seals may be shot, and I like the look of the original Guzzi shocks anyway. The XS sits much better now, and I am able to use the center stand, which was the goal...

    Shocks

Thanks for your kind offer, but I am in Canada, right on the US border. If the border was open and I could access my post box in Danville I would avail myself of your offer, but it is slow and expensive these days getting things from the US shipped to Canada. JD

    Shocks

Y'now, I have a couple of old sets of 13 inch shock from my Guzzis up in my cultch heap. Maybe I'll take a look at them to see if they will work. They were a good quality shock. I replaced them with a set of air shocks a few years back. Might save me from SWIMBO. At least for a while...

    Shocks

Thanks for the advice regarding brands. I am looking at a few different options, likely go with the KYBs. I didn't really want to spend the cash, but I guess that's always the case, isn't it. I spent way too much earlier this winter on a couple of other bike projects, and I am starting to get...

Any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive set of shocks of the proper length? JD

    Shocks

Thanks for that. The bike was modified for sidecar use, so clearance and peg scraping of was not an issue. Now that I have removed the sidecar, I will need to modify it's stance with longer shocks, from what you are saying.

    Shocks

I recently installed a side stand and a center stand on this new-to-me 1980 XS. The side stand, when deployed, is very close to the tip line, and I am entirely unable to deploy the center stand. I am simply unable to lift the bike onto the center, even with the front wheel on a 2x4. It occurs...

    Newbie with jetting question

Today I finally received the jets I ordered (3 1/2 weeks!), and proceeded to install new 140 mains and 45 idle jets, replacing the 145 mains and 42.5 idle jets the bike had when I bought it. I discovered that the old main jets were the small headed ones. Would that make a difference at all? It...

    Fuel petcock vacuum oring

Beautiful! That's exactly what I needed to see! Thanks man!! I'll head down to the FLAPS tomorrow and pick one up.

    Fuel petcock vacuum oring

Yep, that would be the one. I am presuming that that one is the one that crustifies (new word) and prevents the petcock from fully closing. As the tap on my bike lets fuel through when it shouldn't, I want to replace whatever is keeping it open.

    Fuel petcock vacuum oring

Can anyone provide me with the correct oring size for the vacuum diaphragm shut-off in the fuel petcock (1980 vintage)? The one in my tap is pretty dried up and crusty, and rather than just going by guess or by golly, it would be nice to know the actual original oring dimensions while I search...

    Newbie with jetting question

Interesting story, regarding the town toughs. We had the same two three guys in the little town where I grew up in the sixties. Suppose they were related? The fuel tap issue sounds as though it has been an over-thought addition to the bike. Guzzi had the same over engineered sort of thing for...

Thanks for that! I'll pull the tank and R&R the existing tap then. JD

    Newbie with jetting question

Thanks, I found some at Fortnine here in Canada. Not as cheap as from Mikesxs, but shipping from FLA was going to be 48 bucks! I'm still finding my way around, in the part supplier world for Yamaha. On another matter, how does the vacuum fuel petcock work? I tried simply turning it off at the...
