    Mikes keihin carb kit

Well damn. I pulled the carbs off and tried to remove the float bowl but it seems like it's hung up on something and won't come off easily. I'm afraid to force it. Is there a trick to this or should these bowls just drop right off? thanks again

    Mikes keihin carb kit

Hi all. I just got my carbs installed and got her started up for a run around the block and noticed fuel was leaking out of a nipple on the float bowl. Looks like an overflow but not sure. Can anyone confirm what these nipples are for and why there would be fuel leaking? Float needs...

    Mikes keihin carb kit

Ah yes that makes perfect sense now. I've had non vacuum petcocks on my '79 special since I purchased it so it's easy to forget they came with vacuum ones. And thanks for the metal cage idea. I've seen a ton of problems with those boots so I will defiantly take your advice. I'm thinking of...

    Random Rattling Noise

Thanks for all the advice. As to the valve adjustment, I did check to be sure I was at top dead center on the cylinder i was adjusting. To be sure I had this correct I pulled one of the plugs and was able to see the cylinder hit the top with a flashlight. I didn't however rotate the engine one...

    Random Rattling Noise

HI All, I just adjusted my valves and my cam chain for the first time in my life. Funny thing is, now i have a strange random rattling noise going on and the valves still have quite a bit of noise. The rattle sounds kind of like a rattle can of paint being slowly shaken. As for adjusting...

Stripped BS 38 float bowl screws

I think i managed to stop my major leakage at the float bowl, for now at least, by using some smaller diameter screws with nuts on top. It turned out that only two of the four screws in question were stripped. However, when I had the carbs off i decided to replace the fuel line linking the two...

Stripped BS 38 float bowl screws

Alright, I checked out the process on youtube. Doesn't look too hard but I'm having trouble locating a store that carries a 4mm helicoil kit. Any suggestions?

Cool, so what size tap and what size helicoil? I think the screws are 4mm right?

Stripped BS 38 float bowl screws

Sorry, I should have explained this better. I can remove the screws, it's the threads on the carb that are stripped so the screws won't torque. I need to get those threads fixed or somehow figure out how to tighten the float bowl to the carbs so they don't leak gas.

Stripped BS 38 float bowl screws

It seems my float bowl screws are stripped out. I've never used a tap before. Anyone know what tap size I should use or have any suggestions to get around having to tap these?

    Left Side Cover Install Problem

Alright, I got her on the road! The problem turned out to be a sticky and poorly adjusted clutch. It turns out that I did start the worm gear in the wrong position. It needed to be started at the 12 o'clock position to give it the proper clearance at the rod. The reason the cover wouldn't go...

    Left Side Cover Install Problem

Thanks for the pics guys. The one i posted though was where I started the gear. With the spring attached it sits where those pics show. At first (when I couldn't get the cover on) I had the gear started at 12 o'clock instead of 3. I was just out in the garage and put the bike in gear, the...

    Left Side Cover Install Problem

Well, I had the push rod in the right way. I managed to get the side cover bolted on with the clutch cable attached but i had to start the worm gear in a different position to give it more clearance when the cable was attached. The cable attached at the bar lever snugly. The clutch lever...

    Left Side Cover Install Problem

Thanks for the reply! I don't remember pulling the push rod out until yesterday when I first tried to reinstall the side cover but it has been about a year since then so my memory is a bit foggy. I'll take a look at it tonight and repost.

    Left Side Cover Install Problem

I've had my left engine cover off for about a year while trying to find a new rotor. I finally got one and after replacing it I can't get the cover back on. The cover will not go flush with the clutch cable attached at both sides. It seems that it is getting pushed out about 1 cm by the push...
