Just out of curiosity - Airplane Guys

Been watching Masters of the Air on Apple. Follows the exploits of B17 heavy Bombers over Europe during the later years of the war. Not a bad show, very American, if you know what I mean. The battle scenes are very well done, and I can understand why they came back home a little off.

Anyone need a nice Honda. Im cleaning house.

If I was a little closer, I would be interested. But the hassle of bringing a bike across the boarder now has become a little too much. Good luck.

Northern Vancouver Island Ride - not XS

Cool ride. Notice there is not much smoke from the fires over there, looks like blue sky in your photos. Always enjoy time on the Island, wife and I had plans on retiring to the South Island, maybe Sooke area, but plans changed a couple of years back. And those ferries, what a disaster. Lower...

    Everbody needs a bug

Had a few VW’s, 1950 small back window, 64 which I did a complete overhaul on, and a 69 van for travelling around Europe in 1973. Blew the engine trying to make the ferry at Southampton, then got stolen, never to be seen again. Used to pull the engines out on the side of the road in front of...

What have you done to your XS today?

Yeah, was a good day, rain held off, and a decent turn out. As usual the best part of a swap meet is the show of bikes outside. My son said they a a lot of bikes on the ferry he was working tsawwassen to Swartz bay, Sunday.

Just out of curiosity - Airplane Guys

This video illustrates the importance of the pilots. I used to work for this outfit, and it was a black eye for the company. Human error for sure, as well as mechanical failure led to this, and lucky no one was killed. The last 10 minutes explain the reasons for the lack of fuel. If you have a...

    Northwest Motorcycle Classic, Lynden WA

Had planned on attending this year, after a few non event years because of covid. Unfortunately other stuff has suddenly taken priority. The following weekend is the big one in Abby, and the weather is supposed to be good too.

Just out of curiosity - Airplane Guys

Airline I used to work for rented out unused hanger space to people with smaller aircraft so they could be out of the weather and for maintenance. One of them was a P51 mustang, named “Cottonmouth”. Used to walk past it every day, impressive machine. A few times a year the owner would take it...

    Just Ride.

Hey Atom, little late with my reply, stuff happening. The maples Inn, name seemed familiar to me, but still had to google it. Yep, spent my first few days in Canada in that place. The guy that owned the garage I was going to work at put me there, another employee lived close by, got picked up...

    Just Ride.

Atom, nice pics, bought back some distant memories for me. Spent a few years living and working on the West Island back in the mid to late 70’s. Spent a bit of time in Valleyfield, helping a friend rebuild an old {today old} Fairlane 428cj. I left early 1980 to get away from the politics of the...

Farewell to a dear friend (grizld1)

This came as a bit of a shock to me. I knew he was having health issues, but when this happens, it still hits home on our own mortality. Thanks for all the help over the years Dick, RIP my man.

VIDEO -- of my Aprilia hydraulic clutch mod

Good job DB. The video makes it all seem easy. Which it is. I went a different route, with Honda master and slave. Matched set, so now worries with sizing and one piece line. Nissin parts so easy to get replacement seals. Kept the long rod and shortened the shorter stocker to fit with second bb...

Crankcase vent using a reed valve.

Gary, you are correct in thinking the diaphragm valve only closes when throttle is rolled off, allowing no air movement through the reed valve. At least that is how it works on my Honda. When I installed the Mikes valve on the xs650, how much pressure and then vacuum is created in the crankcase...

    Van Islander's TX650A - Quest for a Daily Rider

Been following this, very nice Van Islander. I do like that cinnamon brown model. There is, or was one the same for sale at Windbell motorcycles in North Van, but as usual, too much and too rough. So still looking.

Crankcase vent using a reed valve.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Those valves have been removed from a lot of bikes so should be easy enough to come by. My Honda 500 single has one hanging off the side of the engine, and looks like an after thought just stuck on there. But it is staying for now, need to have it...

Yamaha XS 650 Police Special New Zealand

yeah, all good things come to an end eventually. I think the tragic accident with the father, daughter, outfit was the end. It was too dangerous, so common sense had to prevail.

    Anyone ever own a BSA?

Back in the very early 70s I had a 68 Lightning. It was an ok bike, but not as quick as my previous 650 Triumphs. And that was the problem, the need for speed. As for heavy bikes, not now, as I approach 71, everything hurts too much, and don't have the strength anymore. Had an xs850 triple...
