melted connector

I have a 77 xs650D and recently had some charging issues with my xscharge PMA system. Ran through all of the tests and it seems ok, but one curious note was the 3 wire connector from the stator was melted. Is that why the charge wasn't getting through, and if so, what generally causes that? I...
