speedometer repair

I have search for this but could not find it. Seems stupid, but how do you get the chrome cover to clear the odometer post so that the cover can be removed? The plastic knob that turns the trip is easily removed but the chrome cover does not clear the metal portion of the knob. Does the metal...

I need to remove the speedometer cover to re-chrome. Does anyone ever do-it ? How can i do it ? Thanks

Hate it or love it, Aussie ingenuity and a few cable ties have done it again. Before the hate flows, please remember that this is a temporary fix until I can afford new boots for these gauges on my bike.
