Does anyone have a 1970-1975 cam chain tensioner (Type A, B, or C above) handy who can measure the spring length? Thank you.

All I have are later D and E types but according to the parts diagrams, the same spring is used. But measuring springs that have been under compression and in use for many years may not give equal, consistent results. This spring is still available from Yamaha, probably because it was also used in the SR/XT/TT 500, and today in the latest version, the SR400.

Thank you for the reply and information.
The old biker.net parts diagrams show part # 90501-14095-00 for C,D, and E springs, but they also give secondary numbers that are different:
341-12216-00 for 1974-1975, and
341-12216-02 for 1976-1979.
After 1980 they drop the secondary number, and stay with just the 90501-14095-00 number.
The xscafe parts diagrams affirm these part numbers, except that for 1974-75 they ONLY give the 341-12216-00 number.

Anyways, the D and E (1976-1983) spring is about exactly 2" long (several measured). However, I have an oddball-to-me spring that is less than 1-3/4" long. That would be a heck of a lot of compression from use. Both it, and a normal 2" spring have 11 turns.
Thus my original question -- I thought the short spring might be from a 74-75 tensioner. But now, I think maybe it came from a 1970-1973 tensioner?
If anyone has an early 1970-1975 tensioner available and would like to share their spring lengths, I'd appreciate it.

EDIT: change title and original post to include 1970-73.

I do, in fact, have a '71 motor. I'll check it.

OK, that '71 spring is just a little under 2", about 1 15/16" or just under 50mm. It's definitely nowhere near 1 3/4" or less.

Alright, thanks a lot for those measurements. Very helpful to me.
My conclusion is that ALL years springs must be about the same length. My mystery less than 1-3/4" spring must be from a different model.
