I have a 1975 xs650, i was woundering if there are any other year front forks that would fit on the bike, and the mounting holes for the front brake are the same? also do i need a speacial tool to changr fork seals?

A complete with brakes (rotor too) later fork is bolt on and has 35mm vs 34mm tubes. No special tool for fork seals except getting the allen head bolt out of the bottom of the leg can be an issue, an air wrench and a LONG allen socket has always worked for me.

If you want the exact same brake mounting holes then you'll need to stick with a '72-'75 fork. The '76 fork is nearly the same but mounts the brake on the rear of the fork leg. It could probably be mounted with minimal mods to brake lines and such. As Gary said, a newer fork will fit up but you will need lots more stuff - complete fork, both triple trees, disc, caliper, and MC.
