Hey folks, hoping for some insight.

Using coils from xs650direct and one of them builds up w/ carbon on the little pin that the hight tension lead stabs onto after running for a while causing it to run very poorly if at all till I scrub off the buildup.

I swapped the coils positions left to right and problem persists in the same coil.

same one as this; https://www.mikesxs.net/yamaha-xs650-oem-type-signal-output-ignition-coil-oem-254-82310-60-00.html

I can't seem to find anyone having this issue anywhere in the forums or online for that matter.

Bad coil?

Thanks in advance.

Is it possible there is some reason that the wire is not seating all the way into the coil? If there is a gap you would have arcing and possibly cause carbon buildup. I would measure how far the wire goes in on the good one and check it with the other. Also what is the condition of your wires?

Hey blues, Thanks for your thoughts. When it starts to act up I remove the coil to clean it and make sure it's really jammed in there when I put it back. The wire is brand new from a local bike shop.
