1980 XS650 Special II
Winter is coming, this could be the perfect project!
All I have done is get it running and swap on a set of lower Euro bars (not pictured). Went through the carburetor and found that it had a torn diaphragm. Replaced both with brand new JBM Industries rubber and the bike fired right up with fresh ethanol free gas. Tank is just about spotless inside. New clutch cable as original was frozen.
This bike is a 1980, so it already has factory electronic ignition, no points to worry about. Lights work, drove it around my yard a few times before parking it back in the garage.
Known issues:
Valves are noisy, probably never had an adjustment.
Front brake caliper is dragging & feels spongy
Tires hold air, but are very old & hard
Tachometer faceplate screws have vibrated out
Once again, this is a project bike. You will need to turn a few wrenches before putting it on the road. Perfect for that bobber / cafe / hardtail build you've been thinking about undertaking!
I've decided that I don't want to put any money into another XS project, as my 750 is taking priority.
