1980 xs650 run without ignition

I just bought a XS650 from up north, after it was delivered I put fresh gas and a battery in and she fired right up! But here's the catch. The ignition switch, timing advance, and coil pick up's are are missing. Does anybody have a clue how the bike is even running??? I bought it from a charity auction for a boys ranch so there's no way to speak with the previous owner. Although the bike ran it would only run on choke and didn't have good power. So I'm guessing the PO rigged up something trying to get her going. I'm in the middle of pulling things apart to figure it out but though someone could give some insight.
Also I should mention the regulator and TCI box is still on the bike and as far as I can tell its still plugged into the harness.

With the TCI there is no advance or anything to do with points
check out the tech section
coil is under the gas tank if in the proper location
