So I just bought an 82 Heritage Classic, the carburetors are missing, other than that the bike apperes to be in good shape, I have three sets of 38 mm Mikunis. They've been sitting for years and would need to be rebuilt. Aside from the linkage issues. can they be made to work? Or what is the cheapest solution? I just want to get it going so I can ride it this spring. Thanks

IIRC BS38's are a bit longer than the BS34's so fitting them to stock aircleaners might be a fight. If you are using aftermarket air filters shouldn't be any big issues.
Just use BS38 intake pipes.

Last summer, I experimented with a couple different sets of BS38s on my '83. Both worked well and one set is still on there. You'll need BS38 intake manifolds and you'll have to "T" the fuel lines together to run off your single petcock tank. I used UNI pod filters so the airbox connection was a non-issue for me .....

Hey @5twins don't mess with his head, those from an XS500?
Fuel lines on XS650 BS38s....................... You could tee the lines or just plug one inlet.
