Have a 76 that is mostly stock and have been wiring up the signals and brake lights which has been going well but I have one question. According to the wiring diagram it looks like I take + power off the brown wire, through the rear brake switch and out the yellow wire. When I activate the brake switch the rear STOP light comes on but it also activates the safety relay which prevents me from being able to start the bike. The bike is in neutral. What am I missing here?

You must have a cross connection from the 2 circuits. Both use yellow wires.

The yellow wire that comes from the front and rear brake switches only operates the brake light.

The yellow wire that comes from the alternator (centre of the windings) only goes to the safety relay coil.

Someone has connected the wrong yellow wires together.

That straightened things out and solved a stray wire issue. thanks. I still think next winter I want to gut the whole harness though and start fresh.
