650 special? A guy in eau Claire has a perfect pair but they might be 79 pipes.
What’s the difference? I thought all Specials had the same exhaust. (Other than position of the outlet)650 special? A guy in eau Claire has a perfect pair but they might be 79 pipes.
I see what you're doing there...don't tempt me - garage is kinda full already, though. Please let me know if you ever run across a set without the motorcycle attached.Set of nice pipes $1500 includes free! attached running, titled motorcycle.
That original exhaust is worth at least half your asking price...rare as hen's teeth the headers usually discolor or rust out...I'm getting a woody over this one...Set of nice pipes $1500 includes free! attached running, titled motorcycle.
Unless you can go to Durban, SA to pick up a set.Afrtermarket exhaust for XS1100s and XJ1100s are not made anymore...
gggary how much for the alternator cover?
Got pics of the presentation of the 81 to Brian's Dad Ed.The 81 SPII is going to a great home. A gas tank derust and bit of clean up, engine maint 101 was about it.
Son bought it for his 81 year old father who had this EXACT bike brand new, quit riding, family etc. then his "boys" got ahold of it. Yah-know what I mean?
Anyways dad got back to riding and really wanted to have "HIS" bike back.

I want to be that guy, still enjoying motorcycles into my eighties, or at least to the end of me. I have a friend who will be 77 next month. Last year, he had a liver and kidney transplant. He's back and good as new. I talked to him yesterday and he had been out on his Road King that has 160,000 miles on it. He has three other Harleys that he rotates time on, two of them are Sportsters.Got pics of the presentation of the 81 to Brian's Dad Ed.

He's a happy camper!
Most excellent and much appreciated @MacMcMacmac !Here's a service manual if you need it.
They went from a brushless alternator (not a PMA) in the XS1100 to brushes in the XJ1100.Dang, if I'm reading the manual correctly, the big XJ's alternator is good for a stout 364W. It would be interesting if the parts could be made to fit a 650.
I wonder what the fuel mileage would be without it.Interesting. It's also the only bike engine I know of with a vacuum advance.
