Aftermarket Headlight wires?

Hey all,
Quick question: I bought an aftermarket headlight with 3 wires coming out from the light and one from the little neutral light on the top of the bucket. How can I determine which wires are which from the 3 from the headlight itself? Should I start hooking things up to a battery and see? Should I use a voltmeter? I'm a bit stumped here and don't want to blow anything out. Thanks

Take a peek inside the light and see what's what. Here is a diagram of a typical headlight plug. Hook up to a battery to verify.
