Bent handle bars

I tried to teach my older brother how to ride and after about 30 minute lesson he ended up dropping the bike after he hit and the gas instead of the break, only the right blinker took any cosmetic damage but my real question is are my handle bars or forks bent. You cant tell anythings bent by looking at it and you forget about it after about two minutes of riding. Is there any way I can figure out if its the handle bars or the forks that need realignment?
