I just installed the floating disc upgrade from MikesXS. There's a note from the manufacturer saying that there should be no dragging at all or it could damage the rotor. I've done disc brake installations and repairs on dozens of different vehicles and disc brakes always rub a bit. Is the '81 XS650 different or is slight rubbing typical?

Odd thing to say...always seen drag on discs and drums...as long as I can get a couple rotations of the wheel when I spin it...I have called it good.

Lick your finger and touch the disc after a ride. If it sizzles, you're dragging too much.

I have that rotor...a little drag is normal. I remember reading that too and ignored it as all disc brakes drag...you just don't want the drag so much that it locks up the brake ...haven't had any issues for 6+ months now.
