Broke the engine?

BTW - this is the cam chain I'm using on my 750 rephased motor and the stock 650 I'm rebuilding right now. A quick search of BF05M x106 turns it up many places for around $20.

Hey everyone,

The engine is apart to inspect for damage after the snapped cam chain.

I closely inspected the valves and pistons for any signs of a collision between the two.

Below are some pics.

I am thinking everything is good and I can now put the engine back together. Thoughts?
Also, I am replacing the headgasket. Is it also necessary to replace the base gasket. I used a hell of a lot of hylomar gasket sealer so I am reluctant to remove the jugs, clean them up, and put down a new gasket. Thoughts?

Looks like you got real lucky. There is a way to check the valves by letting a fluid stand in the combustion chamber, I have never done it but maybe someone else can weigh in here

Can anyone chime in on this liquid test that Reid mentioned?

Acetone in the combustion chamber of the head while inverted to see if the valves allow it to seep out - google it and dont take my word for it as I haven't done it myself.

I'd check to make sure the valves move freely but the pictures look pretty good.
