Smoke was being caused by one of the valve seals being bad. Anytime an engine smokes on the deceleration it's usually a valve seal.
Also, adjusted the valves. Did this before the valve seals And it helped with the temperature running hot if I can remember correctly.
As for the carbs I studied this obsessively http://www.iwt.com.au/mikunicarb.htm
And messed with needle positions and varied jets until I found the correct application.
Can't remember exactly the position of the needle or size of the jets, but it wouldn't be helpful to you anyhow because every bike (as well as climate and altitude) is different.
You just have to do ALOT of trouble shooting and it'll just start to become clear or "tell you" exactly what's works for it.
And print and read that link obsessively!!!!!!
You will never understand what your carb wants if you can't understand every stage of how and why it actually works!!!!
Good luck!
