Hi all,

Some top end noise and black/metal bits in the oil screen lead me to believe 'Ol Blue needs a new cam chain guide. While I'm in there, what are some other things to check? If at all possible, my budget is around $400, which know may be pushing it.

Thanks!

You'll want to replace the valve guide seals, probably lap the valves, check/replace rings. If cylinder wear is beyond the limit, it will need an over bore instead of just rings. If the mileage is anywhere near 20K, I like to replace the cam chain. If a re-bore isn't needed, you might get by with about $200. If it has to be bored, that will add another $150 or so.

Thanks for the reply! Do you know io any information or walk through regarding valve lapping? Anything for a complete tear down and freshening up?
