Hey I hope you have happy holidays. I have a plastic-free front guide from an xs650 (I think it's OEM) and a guide from another motorcycle that I'm not going to use anymore, apparently it has a backing material to be able to make a frankie guide.
What do you think?

I think I would buy a new one. If your attempt doesn't hold then that motor has to come out again and top end off to do the job a second time. For $40-50 it would be worth it to me to know the job won't need to be done a second time. But that's just me... others may disagree....

It's doable. I used an SR500 guide to mod the one I'm using. Not sure what guide you have there? Like Willis says though, new ones are pretty cheap.

Es factible. Usé una guía SR500 para modificar la que estoy usando. ¿No estás seguro de qué guía tienes allí? Sin embargo, como dice Willis, los nuevos son bastante baratos.

Have a look here.... https://www.xs650.com/threads/cam-chain-guide-mod.51730/

Yes, that would have been my first option if the shipping from the stores would not cost more than the guide itself (between 40-60 dollars to my country) in addition to delays in shipments due to the pandemic.

Yes, actually that's why I considered it an alternative. His work is very good, although I don't know if he could have the same skill level 😆.
It is a guide from a Suzuki ls650, that engine reached a high temperature.

The big thing is you have to get the finished thickness right so it doesn't push in too much on the chain. Too thick and it would wear very quickly and probably wouldn't even allow a new tight chain to fit.
