So after getting my engine mostly back together from a rebuild including D.I.D. camchain I adjusted the tensioner flush at TDC and proceeded to adjust the valves and set the timing, when I installed the tensioner cap I could feel it hit the adjuster bolt/stud and start to turn it, so I ran cap all the way in by hand until I felt the o-ring touch then took it off again, the stud had turn in 1 3/4 turns ( roughly 3mm) making the chain adjustment way too tight by that amount, this is a "D" type adjuster, the copper washer is there. I also noticed when installing the cam bearings that the chain is very tight ( yes, it is the right pitch for a 77 650D)
Anyway, I have seen this problem mentioned a couple times on the forums but no one ever responded and I cant seem to find anything relevant with the search. I dont want to run it that tight until it loosens up either.
Any suggestions? Machine a spacer for the cap? Kinda lost #$%@^
