anyone strip the tap hole the the choke lever screw into on they '76 carbs? put the choke lever on a few ago and the damn threads came right out with damn near no torquing... pissed... would rather not start the bike by turning in the idle screw on the left car asa a cheap "choke". remedy ideas?

I only use the choke for initial starting & shut it off almost immediately it starts. I have a cheap plastic tyre valve cap pressed over the idle screw, so I can adjust the idle for starting using my fingers & then readjust as it warms up, as I ride. Been doing this for over 2 years, no problem

From memory there's not a lot of meat around the thread but you could try drilling larger and retapping. Perhaps using the closest imperial thread size up. As a 'bodge' repair that sometimes works long term, try measuring the depth of good thread left at the base of the hole to see if a longer bolt (cut to the perfect length) installed with chemical metal would hold it.
